Environmental groups filed a court challenge this week to an air permit for a proposed coal-fired plant in Sandersville, Ga.
In November, the state’s Environmental Protection Division re-issued the permit for Plant Washington after a state administrative law judge rejected the original version for environmental concerns.
The environmental groups say the state permit doesn’t meet the recently set national standards to limit air pollutants from coal-fired power plants.
The challenge will be assigned to a judge with the Georgia’s Office of State Administrative Hearings who will issue a decision.
Plant Washington is backed by Power4Georgians, a conglomerate of electric membership corporations, including Cobb EMC.
