Now hiring in metro Atlanta

There are a number of companies across the metro Atlanta area seeking new employees of all skill levels. Whether you're in retail, healthcare or finance, there are opportunities that span several industries. Here's a brief snapshot of what's available this month:

FedEx is still hiring seasonal workers for the holidays, as it fills 1,500 positions in the Atlanta area. The shipping firm is hiring a total of 50,000 seasonal workers throughout its network — including the local openings — and will continue to hire throughout the holiday season. The jobs include package handlers, drivers and other support positions. More than a third of the package handlers hired at FedEx ground facilities stayed on with the company for work after the holidays, according to FedEx.

The grocery store chain is hosting a job fair for veterans and their families in hopes of filling 1,000 positions for stores in Georgia, Eastern Alabama and South Carolina. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9, at all 188 Atlanta division Kroger stores. Prior to the event, attendees are required to fill out an application online by Nov. 7.

The department store is seeking thousands of employees for the holiday season. Openings are available at call centers, megacenters and product-specific fulfillment centers across the nation including in Stone Mountain. Applicants can apply on macysJOBS.com or bloomingdalesJOBS.com.

Marvel's "Black Panther" starring Chadwick Boseman

At the moment casting folks need people to play the part of villagers in "Wakanda," the African home nation of Boseman's character. Men and women ages 18 to 90 are welcome. The casting notice suggests wearing "African wardrobe, Afropunk looks, tribal looks, or just come in a neutral color tank top and shorts/capris/leggings." Don't wear baggy clothing as they need to get an idea of your dimensions. Also, don't bring children to this casting call. (Children will be needed for a future casting call, though).

WorkSource DeKalb is offering free work readiness workshops during the month of November at its Decatur office. From resume writing and personal branding to marketing and job search tips, the events are designed to provide job seekers with the skills needed to find employment. Classes are held Mondays through Thursdays. Visit the website for the full schedule.
