Saturday football, softball and volleyball scores

On the football field, Americus-Sumter scored all of their 9 points in the first half of their game against Northside-Columbus. The Panthers allowed Northside to fall into the end zone in the third, but held on strong to claim the 9-7 win. After being down 21-10 at the half, Fitzgerald battled back and shut out Thomasville in the second half to win 36-21. Telfair County soundly defeated Atkinson County 52-21 to grab the Trojans first region win of the season. Clinch County’s 20-point first half performance helped solidify their 41-12 victory over Turner County. The Panthers got on the board early in the first when Dantonio Robinson rushed into the end zone on a 5-yard run. Robinson struck again in the second when Trezmen Marshall connected with the Senior for a 5-yard touchdown. Marshall rushed for a touchdown himself late in the second to get his second score of the night. The Panthers had two more rushing scores in the third, one from Tyler Morehead and another from Robinson for his third score of the night. Morehead put a cap on the Panthers scoring in the third with a second rushing score.

On the softball diamond, the Pope Greyhounds defeated Creekview 6-5 in game three of their series after being tied 5-5 in the seventh inning. Statesboro claimed a two-game series against McIntosh, defeating the Chiefs 8-0 and 15-1 to advance to the second round of the class AAAAA playoffs where they face-off against Bainbridge. After going down 3-1 in their first game against Kennesaw Mountain, Newnan battled to claim a 9-4 victory in game two to force a game three. The Cougars produced another strong showing and defeated Kennesaw Mountain 13-6 to advance to the second round of the class AAAAAAA playoffs. They’ll go up against the winner of the Etowah and Lowndes series.

On the Volleyball court, class A-private third-ranked Hebron Christian racked up a duo of 3-0 wins against Wesleyan and Providence Christian. Class AA top-ranked Coosa defeated eighth-ranked Armuchee 3-1 and second-ranked Pepperell 3-0 to add two more region wins to their season. After advancing to the four-spot in class AAAAA, Whitewater defeated Starr’s Mill 2-0 after losing to the Panthers twice earlier in the season.
