Atlanta brewery Scofflaw Brewing Co. and Flippin’ Bird Brands are pairing to host a bartender competition for out-of-work mixologists in Georgia.

The first Flippin’ Bird Mixology Competition, this year known as “Flippin’ Covid the Bird,” will begin June 1. Out-of-work mixologists and bartenders will compete for a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize and the opportunity to serve as the mixologist of Flippin’ Bird Brands for the remainder of 2020.

Potential contestants will coordinate with Green Olive Media to be placed on the schedule for the contest filming to be held at Scofflaw Brewing Co. Each contestant will use Flippin’ Bird Pink Vodka and Pink Gin to create a drink, one for each of the two brands.

The videos will be judged for personality, creativity and the originality of the cocktail and the field will be narrowed to four finalists. During round two, also held at Scofflaw Brewing Co., the public will vote for their favorite mixologist and drinks, after which a winner will be named.

In addition to the $10,000 awarded to the winner, Scofflaw and Flippin’ Bird Brands will make a corresponding donation of $10,000 to ATL FAMILY MEAL.

The contest will be replicated in other states as Flippin’ Bird Brands enters additional markets. Flippin’ Bird Pink Vodka and Pink Gin will be sold exclusively at Scofflaw Brewing Co. in the coming weeks and will eventually be available to retailers through United Distributors.

This is Scofflaw’s latest attempt to help those in the service industry impacted by COVID-19.

Co-owner Matt Shirah developed a program with GoFundMe and Bottleshare to match every dollar donated up to $10,000. He developed another $10,000 matching program for the Giving Kitchen. And Scofflaw donated $7,500 worth of Kroger gift cards and $7,500 of Publix gift cards to be distributed via Bottleshare.

Shirah put together similar Scofflaw partnerships in Alabama. And in South Carolina, Scofflaw donated $20,000 directly to the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association to help service workers meet rent obligations.

Scofflaw, which Shirah and co-founder Travis Herman opened in 2016, has a primary facility at 1738 MacArthur Blvd. in Atlanta, with plans to open a 9,000 square-foot research and development macrobrewery and taproom at The Works development in West Midtown. There's also a Scofflaw Beer Barn inside State Farm ArenaThe brewery has won multiple awards and has been recognized on "Best of" lists.
