A chef who also stars on a reality television show is bringing his brunch food to metro Atlanta.
Chef Lawrence Page -- also known as LP the Chef -- and his wife, Ana Lavender, celebrated the opening of their Black Gurl Brunch Club restaurant Aug. 22 at 1583 Virginia Ave. in College Park. It takes over the space previously occupied by The Pig & The Pint, which closed last year.
The 5,000 square-foot restaurant will offer seating for 200 customers.
The opening, which was scheduled for earlier this month, was postponed for several weeks due to permitting issues.
Page and Lavender star on "Hustle & Soul," a WE TV show that recently wrapped up its third season. The show follows Page as he operates his restaurant while juggling a complicated personal life.
Black Gurl Brunch Club, which started as a pop-up at Page's Pink Teacup Villa in Miami, promises "classic southern staples innovated and seasoned to perfection," according to its Facebook page. Expect "classic cocktails with a new spin" curated by Ana Lavender along with bottomless mimosas and breakfast cocktails.
The restaurant will feature an all-day brunch menu, with items including Holy Trinity Shrimp & Grits, Chicken & Waffles, LP the Chef’s Five Cheese Mac & Cheese and Vanilla Bourbon French Toast, as well as a build-your-own mimosa bar.
Lavender said after holding Black Brunch Gurl events in Miami, opening a permanent spot for the concept was a no-brainer.
“People were coming from places like Tennessee and the West Coast,” Lavender said. “When we saw how much it was growing, we said, ‘This needs to be a whole restaurant.’”
The eatery has a “warm country feeling” and “feels like eating at your fun auntie’s house,” Lavender said.
Though Black Gurl Brunch Club’s name highlights a specific demographic group, Lavender said the restaurant itself is meant for everyone.
“The majority of our fan base is black women,” she said. “So we wanted to be appreciative of that. Young black women are alienated a lot, so we wanted them to feel comfortable here. But the restaurant is about everyone coming together to celebrate each other. Everyone is welcoming, and everyone is welcome.”
Black Gurl Brunch Club joins two other new restaurants in College Park: Virgil's Gullah Kitchen and Bar and the brunch-focused The Real Milk & Honey Cafe.
Black Gurl Brunch Club will be open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.
