A 12-year-old boy who reportedly drowned Sunday at Lake Sinclair has been identified, according to The Telegraph of Macon.

Traetorin Mitchell was at Lake Sinclair “having a good time” with his family when a younger child was struggling in the water, The Telegraph reported, citing Mark McKinnon, a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources law enforcement.

Traetorin went in to help the child, who wore a life jacket but was having trouble getting back to the bank, McKinnon told McClatchy News.

After he pushed the child back toward the bank, Traetorin went underwater and didn’t resurface, The Telegraph reported Monday.

Crews recovered Traetorin’s body from Lake Sinclair on Monday morning, according to multiple news outlets.

They had been working since Sunday night to find Traetorin.

Authorities got a call about 7 p.m. Sunday, according to Cpl. Bubba Stanford of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Georgia DNR game wardens located Traetorin’s body with sector scan sonar about 10:45 a.m. Monday, according to WGXA.

Stanford said a family was boating, picnicking and swimming near Airport Island when Traetorin went under. The location is near Bass Boat House.

Crews started looking for Traetorin on Sunday night using sonar but returned Monday morning with better equipment, Stanford said.

Traetorin’s body was turned over to the Baldwin County coroner, The Telegraph reported.
