Where to go outdoors within a short drive

• What's up: If you're new to fly fishing or want to work on your skills, Panola Mountain State Park near Stockbridge offers a basic fly-fishing clinic (9:45 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday). Instructors C. H. Brown and Michael Reilley cover equipment, knots, casting and safety.

• Need to know: Wear long pants and sleeves and hiking boots, and bring your own snacks.

• Fees: $7 with your own equipment; $10 without. There also is a $3 parking fee.

• Directions: From Atlanta, take I-20 east to exit 68 (Wesley Chapel). Then south on Ga. 155 for 18 miles to the park.
