Richt foils LSU's plot to steal game plans, Miles jokes

LSU coach Les Miles had some fun Monday with Richt’s decision to give Tammy Mettenberger the week off. Tammy, one of the administrative assistants in Georgia’s football office, is the mother of LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

Miles joked that the move to get her out of the office was security motivated.

“We were really kind of hoping that we'd get the call sheet, several of the other key pieces of information,” Miles quipped at his weekly news conference in Baton Rouge. “But Mark kind of knew that we needed to get that done.”

Speaking to reporters after Monday's practice, Zach Mettenberger said Georgia actually shooed his mom from work for two weeks. And he made to bones about their intentions.

"They gave her two weeks off because they don't want her to be a spy for LSU," he said.

Miles actually has some affinity for UGA. His niece, Katie Browne, is a freshman catcher on the Bulldogs’ softball team. And he said his daughter Macy is a fan of Richt.

“My daughter (was) at the SEC meetings (and) just happened to go over by where the T‑shirts were being handed out to the coaches,” Miles said. “(She) made an acquaintance with Mark Richt.

“She came back after talking to Mark and said, ‘Gee, Daddy, he's a really nice guy."  She said, ‘Do you play those guys? I said, ‘Yeah.’ So I also have to keep an eye on her this week.  I want to make sure she's not mailing Coach Richt our game plans.”

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
