THE TEN AT 10:

1. As I mentioned in a blog yesterday, Todd Grantham’s name has surfaced as a possible candidate for a defensive coordinator’s position with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles. There are reports that he has been targeted by new head coach Chip Kelly. Neither Grantham nor his agent, Mike Harrison, have confirmed the reports.

Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity did tell me this morning he has NOT been contacted by either party. That’s important because Grantham’s contract stipulates that UGA be informed of teams seeking his employ. Kelly is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. news conference today, so stay tuned.

2. Jarvis Jones remains No. 1 on Mel Kiper’s “Big Board, but ESPN’s esteemed NFL draft analyst doesn't expect Gerogia's two-time All-American to be the first player selected.

"The problem with Kansas City is what they need is not there,” Kiper said during a teleconference call with reporters on Wednesday. “They don't need a 3-4 outside linebacker, so you don't take Jarvis Jones. Normally you look at a guy like him, but with their defense, it's just not a fit right now."

Kiper has Jones going No. 5 to the Detroit Lions.

"The only thing that would prevent him from going a little higher would be we'll have to see how the medical checks out with the neck injury he had at USC," Kiper said. "I've had him No. 1 on the board all year, so if he's there at 5, he makes sense as that Von Miller-type 4-3 outside linebacker, and can get a ton of heat on the quarterback."

3. Kiper also fellow UGA linebacker Alec Ogletree. There have been a few mock drafts that have the junior inside linebacker going before Jones in April’s draft.

“He has great versatility,” Kiper said. “He's a former safety that developed into a heck of an inside linebacker. He can fit a lot of schemes. He can cover. He's going to get bigger. He's got tremendous range. He had a great year. I think he could certainly be top 10-12. I have him 13 right now, but by the time the combine workout is over, he could end up in the top 10."

4. Kiper also has senior noseguard John Jenkins going in the first round.

"When you can run like he can and occupy like he can . . . that rarely happens," Kiper said of the 6-foot-3, 358-pound senior. "He's potentially going to be a better player than Dontari Poe. Poe went high last year at 12. (Jenkins) could go in the 20s. I’ve talked a lot about Jenkins as that space-eating, huge defensive tackle who I think could be in that 20-25 area. Right now, I actually have him going 25 to Seattle."

5. While they’re has been a lot talk about Jones, Ogletree and Jenkins, there has been less chatter about Georgia’s many seniors entering the draft. Kiper touched on safeties Bacarri Rambo and Shawn Williams and cornerback Sanders Commings.

“They've been there all year. Commings and Shawn Williams and Bacarri Rambo," Kiper said. "They've been the top safeties in that class pretty much all year. You get pushed down a little when you get the junior influence, but I still think Williams and Rambo and Commings, because of his versatility, could all still be in that third- or fourth-round discussion. All those guys have a chance to be guys that we're talking about pretty early."

6. Lastly, Kiper weighed in on quarterback Aaron Murray’s decision to return to Georgia for his senior season. Kiper had been on the record for a while that he believed that’s what the fourth-year junior should do and said he thought he was looking at third- or fourth-round at best.

“Not as early as maybe he would've liked," Kiper said. "Murray has had a heck of a career. The big thing will be, how tall is he? Is he 6-foot, 6-1? What's his accurate height going to be? But another year to play a little bit better in some of the big games along the way, another year to hone his skills. Right now, I'd say if he has the kind of year he's capable of next year, steps it up in the big games, I think you're looking at maybe a second-round pick (in 2014)."

7. Right guard Chris Burnette, who started all 12 games he played last season and 24 over the last two seasons, underwent shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Hospital. The surgery was deemed a success, but Burnette will have to sit out spring practice while undergoing rehabilitation. “A full recovery is anticipated for the start of  the 2013 season,” according to Ron Courson, UGA’s director for sports medicine.

8. Georgia reports only one other off-season surgery. Tramel Terry, a highly-touted signee and early enrollee from Gosse Creek, S.C., underwent knee surgery three days before starting classes at UGA on Jan. 7. Terry tore his ACL returning a kickoff in the “Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas” all-star game on Dec. 15 in Spartanburg, S.C.

Coach Mark Richt said it’s possible that Terry could return to play at some point this coming season. A versatile offensive play-maker, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder is expected to play wide receiver for the Bulldogs.

9. Georgia released its tentative spring practice earlier this week. The Bulldogs will return to Woodruff Practice Fields on March 2, a Saturday. They’ll hold 14 practices – with a weeklong spring break in the middle (March 9-18) – then wrap up with its annual G-Day spring game on April 6 at Sanford Stadium. That will NOT be during The Masters golf tournament again this year.

10. THIS & THAT: The Georgia basketball team dropped its third straight SEC game with a 79-62 loss to Missouri in Columbia, Mo., Wednesday night. The Bulldogs (6-10, 0-3), who used their 11th different starting lineup in the game, remain winless in conference play heading into Saturday's home game against LSU (8 p.m.) . . . The good news for Georgia in that game was the play of senior point guard Vincent Williams. He poured in a career-high 23 points, nine better than his previous career high. The bad news is the Bulldogs had 19 turnovers in the game. . . . The eighth-ranked Georgia gymnastics team will face No. 24 Auburn Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum. The Gym Dogs are coming off a 196.200-195.775 win at Arkansas last Friday.
