Injury news "heartbreaking" for Bulldogs

ATHENS -- After enumerating Georgia's laundry list of injuries on Sunday, coach Mark Richt settled on one word to describe the way it left him feeling. "Heartbreaking." The Bulldogs lost four players to injury during Saturday night's 34-31 overtime win over Tennessee in Knoxville. A battery of medical tests on ...

From the press box high atop Neyland Stadium.

Way up high on Rocky Top

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Greetings from my perch high atop Neyland Stadium. I’m here to chronicle today’s football competition between the No. 6-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 SEC) and the unranked Tennessee Volunteers. As you may have heard, Tennessee has a really big stadium here on the banks of the Tennessee ...

Georgia safety Josh Harvey-Clemons is coming off a 15-tackle, two pass-breakup performance against LSU.

Josh Harvey-Clemons growing into defensive role

ATHENS – This is not what Josh Harvey-Clemons signed up for, but he’s loving it nonetheless. The sophomore from Valdosta signed with Georgia as a ballyhooed outside linebacker with designs on chasing quarterbacks for his books and board. Instead, the 6-foot-5, 222-pound athlete has found himself traipsing all over the field ...

Tray Matthews joins Todd Gurley on sidelines

ATHENS -- Georgia tailback Todd Gurley did not practice again Wednesday but an even bigger development could be that safety Tray Matthews was held out as well. Matthews, a freshman and the Bulldogs' starter at free safety, "tweaked" his hamstring at the end of practice on Tuesday and spent Wednesday's ...

Q&A: Jenkins hoping he and Bulldogs pass this week's tests

ATHENS -- You'll have to forgive Jordan Jenkins, but he's a little stressed out this week. It's not that whole football thing that has him worried. It's that academic thing. The sophomore from Hamilton has three exams to get ready for this week. They're in accounting, human geography and legal ...

Video: Georgia's Mike Bobo assesses offense

Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo talks to reporters following practice Tuesday in Athens. The sixth-ranked Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 SEC) enter Saturday's game against Tennessee (3-2, 0-1)  averaging 41.8 points and No. 2 in the SEC in total offense at 554 yards per game.

Georgia, on the heels of an electrifying nationally-televised win over then No. 6-LSU, opened as a 10-point favorite over Tennessee.

Richt, Bulldogs on high alert heading to Knoxville

ATHENS -- Georgia coach Mark Richt and his players met with the media at their weekly news conference on Tuesday at the Butts-Mehre football complex. It was an interesting session. The No. 6 Bulldogs are trying to beat back all the adulation they’ve been enjoying from last Saturday’s 44-41 win ...

Targeting rule makes safeties think twice

ATHENS - Georgia coach Mark Richt said something interesting when he was interviewed Monday by Chuck Dowdle on the Bulldog Roundtable radio show in 680 The Fan. He said he thought the Bulldogs’ young safeties might be playing less aggressively when defending receivers over the middle for fear of being ...

Honors flowing in for Georgia's Murray, Morgan

ATHENS – The honors continue to flow in for Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and sophomore Marshall Morgan got some major kudos from the SEC for the first time in his young career. Murray on Monday was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the SEC for the fourth time ...

Rewind: Georgia-LSU one of best games ever played in Sanford Stadium

THE MONDAY MORNING REWIND ATHENS – Wow, what a weekend! I have to say not only was that one of the best games I’ve ever covered at Sanford Stadium, it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen anywhere. I get asked that question all the time, what’s the best game ...

Gurley 'day-to-day' as No. 6 Dogs prepare for Tennessee

Tests confirmed that Todd Gurley only sprained his left ankle during win over LSU.

Always special when Georgia and LSU meet

ATHENS – Greetings from sun-splashed Sanford Stadium. What a gorgeous day for football. Supposed to be a high of 75 degrees today and the only clouds in the sky seem to be there only for decoration. It’s fitting backdrop for what should be a classic football game between Georgia and ...

On the spot: Georgia's linebackers will have hands full

This is one of the formatted deals we do for the print section. Every week I have to designate a player who is "on the spot" in the upcoming game. This week I chose junior inside linebacker Ramik Wilson. Let me know your thoughts. ON THE SPOT: GEORGIA Linebacker: Ramik ...

Georgia's hope is that Todd Gurley shows up in game

ATHENS -- If you were hoping to hear from Georgia tailback Todd Gurley on the occasion of this Saturday's game of slight significance, you're not alone. We were, too. I hope you've had a chance to read Tim Tucker's story on the matchup of two of the SEC's top tailbacks ...

Basketball Dogs set to take the court

ATHENS -- We interrupt all this football mania for an extremely important news bulletin – Georgia’s men’s basketball team begins practice today. OK, so maybe it wasn’t all that important. Nobody is going to win or lose anything. But for coach Mark Fox and his charges, it’s an exciting and ...

Georgia's Richt calls for 'red out' against LSU

ATHENS -- There will be no "blackout" this time around, but Georgia coach Mark Richt likes the idea of a "redout" for Saturday's game against LSU. Richt called for the redout -- essentially asking all Bulldogs fans attending the game to dress in red clothes -- in a tweet he ...

Bulldogs happy for Mettenberger but want to beat him

ATHENS – Georgia coach Mark Richt and a group of Bulldogs players met with reporters Tuesday at the Butts-Mehre football complex for the weekly news conference. No. 9 Georgia on Saturday plays host to the No. 6-ranked Tigers of LSU in a game that, for the Bulldogs at least, will ...

Georgia sophomore safety Josh Harvey-Clemons was named Defensive MVP at the conclusion of spring practice.

Bulldogs' baby-faced DBs ready to battle

ATHENS -- I couldn’t help but notice their baby faces. I know that’s not the type of talk you’re used to reading in the sports pages. To be sure, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Brendan Langley and Tray Matthews are (nearly) grown men and tough guys and elite athletes. But as the three ...

Richt foils LSU's plot to steal game plans, Miles jokes

LSU coach Les Miles had some fun Monday with Richt’s decision to give Tammy Mettenberger the week off. Tammy, one of the administrative assistants in Georgia’s football office, is the mother of LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Miles joked that the move to get her out of the office was security ...

Rewind: Dogs carry many positives into LSU contest

THE MONDAY MORNING REWIND ATHENS -- Welcome to LSU week. It ought to be a wild one. ESPN’s College GameDay and UGA have decided again to set up on the Meyers Quad off Sanford Drive. Meanwhile, the Bayou Bengal faithful should be descending upon Athens about the time construction is ...

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
