I wouldn't necessarily be shocked if they went 10-6 and made the playoffs again or anything, since the average 13-3 team since 1989 has won 9.7 games the following year, but about 3-in-10 of those teams have missed the playoffs the following season. Atlanta could very well be next in line.
Spoiler alert: In Sunday's AJC -- the column will also be available on myajc.com, our premium site -- I pick the Falcons' season game by game, and I have them going a lot closer to 9-7 than 13-3. (I won't divulge exact number here, but you can probably guess.) I do, however, have them making the playoffs.
