Nobody's picking the Braves - except Kate Upton

In the wake of yesterday's revelation that 27 of ESPN's 33 baseball analysts have picked the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Atlanta Braves in the Division Series comes another sobering forecast. Daniel Rathman of Baseball Prospectus doesn't just think the Dodgers will prevail -- he believes they'll sweep. Whoa, Nellie.

(Personal note: I admire and enjoy Baseball Prospectus very much. I'm a subscriber, albeit a reimbursed-by-the-AJC one. I visit the site nearly every day and feel smarter after I do.)

As for Mr. Rathman, here's his conclusion: "Of the four Division Series, this one seems ripest for a sweep. The Dodgers were the only National League club to win 45 games on the road this season, so playing the first two at Turner Field won’t bother them. The three-headed monster of (Clayton) Kershaw, (Zack) Greinke, and (Hyun-jin) Ryu delivers the brooms."

As we're learning, this is not a minority opinion. The Braves have the better record and the home-field edge, but they're betting underdogs against Dodger Blue. But they do have one thing going for them: The Braves' Uptons, Justin and B.J., appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated's playoff preview with an Upton who's no stranger to SI covers. Her name is Kate.

Not that Ms. Upton's presence in a Braves' uniform appears to have cut much slack with Joe Lemire, who writes for SI.com. He's picking the Dodgers in five.

From myajc.com, our premium site: The Braves' Uptons haven't fully delivered, but there's time.

Also from myajc.com: The Dodgers will be tough to beat, but they're not unbeatable.

From ajc.com: SI puts Uptons on the cover.

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
