Tubby Smith won and didn't cheat at Minnesota. The fact that no basketball coach in the history of the program had ever stood at that intersection didn't stop the school from firing him.
Ben Howland went to three straight Final Fours at UCLA, a feat achieved by only one other coach on that campus: John Wooden.
I just finished a column that will be posted shortly. It's about the lunacy that often hits this time of the year. Bizarre firing and hiring decisions are driven by the NCAA tournament, and the firings of Smith and Howland suggest the situation is worse than ever. And yes, I believe those who want Mark Fox fired after just four years at Georgia also have jumped the rails.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject. I'll post a link to the column here shortly.
