Steven Jackson will be celebrating touchdowns for the Falcons next season.

This is what fans want from their sports franchises. Show aggressiveness. Recognize opportunity. Keep important players. Bring in difference makers.

This is how teams win championships, and it's certainly why the Falcons have been moving in the direction of that finish line with more consistency and more momentum than any other team in Atlanta. It's why Tony Gonzalez came back. It's why Steven Jackson is joining him.

The Falcons signed Jackson, a free agent running back, on Thursday to a three-year contract. He is two years younger than the dispatched Michael Turner and showed last season in St. Louis that he remains far more productive at this stage of his career.

He doesn’t have to be the best running back in the NFL next season. At 29 years old -- he'll be 30 by Week 1 -- and with 2,395 carries and 10,000 yards of tread already on his legs, he almost certainly won’t be the best running back in football next season. But he doesn’t need to be to help get the Falcons to the next level – that being, a Super Bowl.
