Ted Cruz has taken the floor of the Senate and says that he's going to keep on talking about ObamaCare until we can't stand it anymore. Or something like that. It is the epitome of Cruz' political career -- hours of preening with no hope or intent of accomplishment other than enhancing his own celebrity. Because, really ....
So far, Cruz says that those who say ObamaCare can't be stopped are just like the people who said it was hopeless to try to stop Adolph Hitler. And that Ashton Kutcher is cool. And that Republicans should stop attacking other Republicans.
This is the Cruz moment. He is the 300 Spartans sacrificing themselves at Thermopylae. The Light Brigade charging the Russian guns at the Battle of Balaclava. He is Churchill promising that "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender." He is Al Gore taking it to the Supreme Court.
OK, maybe not Al Gore.
As to the outcome of what the Wall Street Journal editorial board called "this charge into the fixed bayonets," Cruz seems unconcerned about any negative consequences for lesser Republicans. He is clearly willing to fight it out on this front down to the last GOP House member. As the WSJ puts it, "The supposedly intrepid General Cruz can view the battle from the comfort of HQ while the enlisted troops take any casualties."
