“We believe this to be a terrorist. We believe this to be a man here to kill people.”
That's the chilling and all-too-accurate assessment from Police Commissioner Ed Davis in Boston, where all hell broke lose last night. One of the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing -- the one wearing the black hat -- has been killed in a shootout. A police officer at MIT has been killed. A transit police officer has been seriously wounded in a shootout with the suspects.
The suspect in the white hat is still at large. Associated Press is reporting that the two suspects are brothers from the North Caucusus region of Russia, probably Chechnya, and have been in this country for a year or longer. The second suspect (black hat) is said to be his brother.
The suspect still at large has been identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The older brother, now dead, is Tamerlan Tsarnaev. One of the brothers attended a local community college in Boston. At the moment, they appear to have become a self-trained, self-motivated terrorist team, rather than a team planted here by a terrorist organization.
