Georgia State's Ulrick John on Alabama's front seven

By Doug Roberson

Continuing our series of blogs this week on Alabama’s playmakers, Georgia State tackle Ulrick John provides his thoughts on the Tide’s front seven.

John (608, 290 pounds) will likely see a lot of linebacker Adrian Hubbard (6-6, 252). The junior from Norcross High has 13 tackles, two tackles for loss and two pass break-ups this season. He led the team in 2012 with seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Alabama has five sacks this year.

Georgia State has allowed nine sacks.

Q: What do you see from the line and linebackers on film?

A: They are all very physical, come off the ball really hard and are really fast. They are fast off the ball and big.

Q: Are they the fastest you’ve seen this year?

Yes, they are the fasted d-line I’ve seen on film.

Q: What is the key for you?

A: Just being faster, being quick off the line and make sure I get my hands on them as fast as possible and stay on them as long as possible so that we can try to break a play.

Q: What do you remember about that first game?

A: Breaking my ankle. Fourth play, I broke my ankle. There was a fumble right behind and a linebacker dove on the ball and my ankle and I get bent over the guy.

Q: What does it mean to play the No. 1 team?

A: Just really excited to play. Not everyone can say they played against the No. 1 team in the country at any level. Take it as it is, go in there with the best of my ability and try to get a win.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
