Georgia State QB Ronnie Bell on Vinnie Sunseri

By Doug Roberson

Continuing our series of blogs this week on Alabama’s playmakers, Georgia State quarterback Ronnie Bell provides his thoughts on Tide defensive back Vinnie Sunseri.

Sunseri, a junior, has returned two interceptions for touchdowns this season. The first came against Virginia Tech in the season-opener in the Georgia Dome. The second came against Texas A&M. He became the first Alabama player to score after an interception in back-to-back games since Antonio Langham in 1992.

Sunseri is a playmaker on a team full of them.

Alabama is allowing just 103.5 rushing yards per game this year and 227.5 passing yards per game. They have four interceptions and have forced four fumbles.

Q: What makes Vinnie Sunseri so dangerous?

A: He’s a good athlete. He’s aggressive. He trusts his instincts and he’s a playmaker. That’s what good defenses have, they have playmakers. He knows his reads and goes where he feels he should go.

Q: What’s your key on preventing him from intercepting you?

A: Have good eyes in the pocket, make sure I don’t stare down the receivers. Play my game.

Q: Is the Alabama defense as scary as it looked in last week’s win against Ole Miss (the Rebels rushed for 46 yards and passed for 159).

A: Everybody’s a man. They put the pads on just like we do. Like West Virginia, once you get out there, it’s time to play. Once that first play is over, it’s just remembering our execution.

Q: How’s your health?

A: I’m better. The bye week helped out a lot.

Q: Are you growing more comfortable in the offense?

A: Everything’s comfortable. It’s just about execution now on the runs and passes.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
