Q&A about Alabama

By Doug Roberson

Marq Burnett covers Alabama football for the Anniston Star. He was gracious enough to answer a few questions about the Tide ahead of Saturday's game.

Q: How does this game help Alabama?

A: No disrespect to Georgia State, but it should give Alabama an opportunity to play some younger players early and rest its starters. Alabama is more talented than Georgia State and if its starters come out and play well, this game should be over fairly quickly.

So other than rest, this type of game doesn't help Alabama much. If it's a blowout, fans won't stick around for long.

If it's a close game, people will criticize every part of Alabama's performance.

Q: who are some of the lesser-knowns for Georgia State fans to look for?

A: True freshman defensive end A'Shawn Robinson is tied for the team league in sacks. True freshman cornerback Eddie Jackson has started the last two games and had his first career interception last week agains Ole Miss. True freshman defensive end Jonathan Allen is a nice pass rusher and has played well off the bench.

On offense, true freshmen running backs Altee Tenpenny and Derrick Henry should get a lot of touches in this game.

Q: Does alabama have a weakness?

A: So far, Alabama's weakness has been its offensive line, which is still working through some communication issues. They have the tendency to come out a little flat.

During the Ole Miss game, starting center Ryan Kelly went down with a knee injury and was replaced by Chad Lindsay. Lindsay came in and played well, and getting all the first team reps in practice this week will help.

Still, Alabama's line has shown that they struggle against the pass rush at time and will occasionally miss an assignment.

Q: What's a must-see on campus for visiting fans?

A: I'd recommend everybody visit the Bryant Museum. If you're a college football fan, the Bryant Museum provides a lot of history on the rise of Alabama football.

It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tickets are just $2 for adults and $1 for anyone under 18.

Another good one is the Sarah Patterson Champions Plaza. It's brand new. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held this Friday afternoon. Patterson is the gymnastics coach and has won six NCAA championships in her 30 plus years at the university.

Q: What's a must-eat on or near campus?

A: Rama Jama's. It's two steps away from the stadium and the owner could pass as Nick Saban's brother. They have great breakfast and the service is fantastic.

With it being an early kick, I'd suggest fans get in line as soon as possible because it tends to fill up.

Prices are very affordable and the place is full of Alabama memorabilia.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
