Georgia State finishes another spirited practice

By Doug Roberson

Georgia State had another in what coach Trent Miles said has been a series of good practices on Wednesday heading into Saturday’s game at No. 1 Alabama.

“We’ve had a good week and a really good bye week,” he said.

He said they have been very spirited and very physical.

He pulled back some today and will continue to lighten the work on Thursday.

“The kids are healthy, they are excited, they are practicing well,” he said. “We’re just focused on what we can do.”

Miles said the team needs to have the same focus going into every game that they've had during their preparations the past two weeks.

"From here on out every game for us is big because we are making the step up to BCS," Miles said. "From here on out it's all FBS teams and out conference is no joke. We need them focused all the time.

"They are learning it. They are learning how to focus and I'm learning how to get them to focus."

Injury updates

Defensive tackle Nermin Delic was on crutches Wednesday with what Miles said was a sprained foot. He is scheduled to have X-rays taken on Thursday and Miles said he won’t play Saturday. Delic has had a difficult time staying healthy since transferring to Georgia State from Kentucky last year. He dealt with nagging injuries last year and was sidelined during part of August’s practices with a rib-muscle injury.

Tight end Keith Rucker was no longer wearing a walking boot, but didn’t participate in practice. Neither did Drew Pearson.

Line almost set

Grant King will start at right tackle on Saturday as long as he follows all the rules, Miles said. King, a senior, was required to sit out the season’s first four games because of an NCAA-related academic issue.

If King does start at tackle, A.J. Kaplan, who started at the position in three of the first four games, will drop down to guard, which is his natural position.

Tickets

Georgia State returned 2,014 of the 3,000 tickets they were allotted by Alabama.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
