What does Brown leaving GSU mean? Not much

Georgia State fans, I don’t know how worried you should be that Thomas Brown is supposed to be heading to Marshall.

Yes Brown was on Decatur Street for less than two months, but that may say more about the coaching profession than Georgia State’s situation. Brown, a native of Tucker, wasn’t making a lot at Georgia State ($43,000) so I would have to think money is a factor in the decision. Georgia State hasn’t returned any messages, nor has Marshall.

Plus, Marshall is a more-established program, so there will likely be some attraction to that.

Brown did have a reputation as a good recruiter, but again he wasn't on staff long, so I don't think that will affect the program.

Personally, it appears to me that Brown is not making employers happy.

Tennessee-Chattanooga coach Russ Huesman expressed his displeasure with Brown (or the situation) in January in this story on www.timesfreepress.com.

Miles wasn’t available to comment on Tuesday.

As for who will replace Brown at this late date….it doesn’t appear that Miles is interested in retaining any of the coaches from Bill Curry’s staff so that likely won’t mean a return for Joe Hamilton, for example.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone get promoted, someone like Tony Tiller. He played at East Tennessee State and with the Falcons. He may not have the name cache of Brown, who starred at Georgia, but he knows the area for recruiting purposes.
