One of the state’s top defensive backs was so impressed with UGA’s win over LSU that he’s decided to take an official visit with the Bulldogs.

Wesley Green is a 4-star prospect from M.L. King High School who de-committed from South Carolina last week because he felt like he rushed his decision. Green made an unofficial visit to UGA on Saturday.

“It was really good visit,” Green told the AJC on Sunday night. “It was a real good game, and I enjoyed myself.

“With Georgia’s defense, it caught my attention with how explosive they are. When the game was on the line, they made big plays. At the end of the fourth quarter, after Georgia had scored, they made great plays back-to-back. After that, the game was over with.”

On a scale of 1-10, Green was asked to rank his trip to UGA: “I’d say 9.5. That’s because I had the chance to talk with the players after the game, and I felt pretty comfortable sitting around them. The people around the campus were really nice. They knew me. They were talking to me. I liked the atmosphere before the game, and after the game. It was just a good all-around time.”

Before game, Green got to meet with UGA coach Mark Richt for a few minutes. “He was excited that I showed up to watch the game. He was just saying that he could really use me. He was happy that I made it.”

What about UGA attracts Green? “I really like how Georgia keeps six defensive backs on the field most of the time. I like the way they play with heart, and attack the football. And UGA is UGA – it’s a great school.”

Even though Green committed to South Carolina last summer, he never stopped hearing from UGA. Green said he got hand-written letters every few days from the Bulldogs, and talked to the coaches every other week.

“Georgia will be one of my official visits,” said Green. “That’s the only one I know for sure right now. They (UGA) said I was really high on their board for 2014. They let me know I’m one of the top priorities, and I like that.”

Which other colleges are also in the running for Green? Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss and – again – South Carolina. In fact, Green will be making an unofficial visit this Saturday with the Gamecocks.

“I want to go back and check it out; It’s my first South Carolina game this year,” Green said. “I want to see what the game environment will be like, hear what the coaches have to say to me, and talk with the players.”

Green has talked to South Carolina’s coaches since he de-committed. “We really didn’t talk about (my de-commitment) too much. They told me just to keep grinding.” Green says he was told he still has an offer from the Gamecocks, and he’s not ruling out committing there again.

“I may go there; But at this point, who knows?” he said. “I have a really good relationship with them, and I want to keep it that way.”

UGA has 17 commits for 2014, including three at cornerback or safety. The Bulldogs will likely sign at least one more defensive back.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
