One of Georgia Tech’s football recruits may miss the rest of his senior season in high school after breaking a bone in his foot.

Michael Preddy, a 3-star lineman from Charleston, S.C., suffered the injury after a player collided into his feet while he was blocking in Friday’s game for Porter-Gaud.

“It felt like I just twisted my ankle,” Preddy told the AJC. “I had to be carried off the field, and then I tried to walk around and jog on it to see if I could still get back into the game. But it was too painful. My trainer checked it out and said that I possibly had a break in my bone. The following morning, I got X-rays and my doctor told me that I had a Jones fracture.”

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Preddy has been fitted for crutches and a walking boot for his right foot. He will be out for 5-6 weeks, and hopes to return in time for the playoffs.

“Honestly, it’s disappointing because it’s my senior year and I’m going to miss a lot of the year,” Preddy said. “But I’m going to use this as a positive to hit the weight room harder and keep supporting my team 100 percent throughout the season."

Preddy had planned to attend last Georgia Tech’s home game against North Carolina on Saturday before injury occurred. He briefly talked to Yellow Jackets assistant Lamar Owens to give him the news.

“’Coach Lamar’ said he’s sorry that this had to happen to me, and he’s going to call me later this week to talk about it,” Preddy said.

In July, Preddy committed to Georgia Tech over Wake Forest, Louisville and Rutgers. He is a raw and undeveloped prospect with a nice ceiling of potential. Last year was Preddy’s first year of playing football. He could play either offensive line or defensive line at Georgia Tech; they’ll figure it out after he arrives on campus.

Preddy said he hasn’t had any recent contact with other colleges, and plans to take an official visit to Georgia Tech for the UGA game.

Note: For any parents with kids who are being recruited, you may want to pay attention to a lesson from Preddy’s story. This is why you may want to consider committing early, especially if you have an offer from a “dream” school. If you commit early, you have a football scholarship even if you get injured as a high school senior.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
