Paul and Vad
It was smooth sailing for Paul Johnson and Vad Lee.

Here was reaction from Georgia Tech’s football recruits to the 70-0 win over Elon:

  • DB Miles Taylor of Washington, D.C.: Well since the game wasn’t on TV, I kept looking at the score from my phone. And the last time I checked my phone, it was 21-0 in the first quarter, and I was thinking, ‘Wow, we’re really playing well.’ Then two hours later, I looked at my phone and saw 70-0 and I was excited!! All the hard work that Georgia Tech did during the summer and camp paid off during the first game. Georgia Tech made a statement that they are going to beat you down every play and that they’re on a mission to win the ACC.”
  • QB Matthew Jordan of Jackson, Ala.: “I think it was a statement that Georgia Tech is a new team and they aren’t a pushover.”
  • TE Trey Klock of Hummelstonwn, Penn.: “This says a lot for Georgia Tech. I spoke with Coach Johnson the next day. He said it was a great start but they still have a lot of room for improvement. I think it’s incredible when that many different players scored touchdowns and it was the largest margin of victory for an ACC team. There were several records broken, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Many new players contributed, and it was an exciting start to the season. I can’t wait to see them play at Duke in two weeks.”
  • DE Tyler Merriweather of Demopolis, Ala.: “The game was amazing. The fan base and Georgia Techs play in the 70-0 win shows how dominate Georgia Tech is on both sides of the ball. It shows me that Georgia Tech is balanced and they play hard-nosed football every down. And I love it.”
  • DE Michael Preddy of Charleston, S.C.: “It’s an amazing win that showcased both their offensive and defensive capabilities. I know they’ll carry the momentum into the season. I’m anxious to see what they’ll do in the next game and for the rest of the season.”
  • Lowndes LB Tre Jackson: “The hard work they put in is paying off. It shows that they are going to play every time like they are playing for a championship every week, no matter whom it is. I think it sends the message that we will be very productive this year and win a lot of games.”
  • Lamar County DB Lawrence Austin: “It was a good win. A great way to start the season. Now they just need to carry that momentum as they start the ACC schedule.”
  • Callaway DE KeShun Freeman: “Seeing the guys on the field really made me excited about playing there next year. And, as far as the win, it was amazing.”
  • DB Step Durham of Jacksonville: “The defense looked great. Also the score is big. But to keep a team to zero points, that’s great.”

Yellow Jackets even found trouble during pregame

Here is a clue that your trip to sunny south Florida may not be a carefree vacation: You’re a football team, and you lose one of your starters during warm-ups.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
