A 15-year-old high school freshman from Griffin is waiting to hear back from UGA about an extra early scholarship offer in football.
Broadarius Hamm, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive lineman from Spalding High School who wears a size 18 shoe, made national headlines this week when it was reported that he got an early offer from UGA. Hamm’s story was featured by ESPN and on local TV stations because it’s rare when a college offers a freshman.
Spalding County coach Nick Davis told the AJC that UGA defensive line coach Chris Wilson stopped by his school on Monday and “informed me that ‘we’re going to offer (Hamm).’ ”
However, Davis and his prized prospect have yet to hear from UGA head coach Mark Richt, who has a policy of being the person who officially offers a scholarship to recruits on behalf of the Bulldogs.
In BYU, Georgia Tech will face a defense that is one of the toughest in the nation to score against and has a playmaking force in outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
Tailback J.J. Green said he can’t say for sure how many times he has heard “you’re one play away from playing” from Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and running backs coach Bryan McClendon.
