Longtime Georgia Tech DB commit flips to Mississippi State

Tolando Cleveland, a cornerback who had been committed to Georgia Tech since last July, announced on Twitter that he had switched to Mississippi State on Thursday.

Cleveland’s coach at Hillgrove High School, Phillip Ironside, told the AJC that he “knew nothing about” the switch on Thursday afternoon, and that Cleveland had already left school for the day.

Former Georgia Tech assistant Geoff Collins, now the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, likely played a huge factor in the switch.

Georgia Tech has parted ways with two recruits within the last week, including Tri-Cities High School offensive lineman Jeremi Hall. Two other commits, QB Damon Mitchell and WR Jumichael Ramos, may visit other schools this weekend – the final weekend before next Wednesday’s national signing day.

It’s not all bad news. On Wednesday, Georgia Tech landed a commitment from McEachern QB Ty Griffin. Also, the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect, Milton DE Carl Lawson, made an unofficial visit with the Yellow Jackets. Lawson, who is still officially committed to Auburn, has Georgia Tech as one of his four favorites, along with Auburn, Tennessee and Clemson.

Georgia Tech is also trying to secure an official visit with George Adeosun, an offensive tackle from Alpharetta High School. Paul Johnson visited the school on Thursday to speak with Adeosun, who is deciding whether to go to Purdue, Georgia Tech or Arizona State this weekend.
