Georgia Tech finished up its biggest recruiting weekend of the year.

And it appears to have been a success.

The Yellow Jackets entertained nine recruits this past weekend. Seven in the group had previously pledged to Georgia Tech, another one committed on Sunday, and the other is seriously considering the ACC school.

The seven Georgia Tech commits were Lovejoy RB Travis Custis, Aquinas RB Brendan Douglas, Tri-Cities OL Shamire DeVine, Jackson DE Justin Akins, Tri-Cities OL Jeremi Hall, OL Chris Griffin of Crawfordville, Fla., and ATH Damon Mitchell of Egg Harbor City, N.J.

The new commit is WR Ricky Jeune of Montvale, N.J. He picked Georgia Tech over Purdue on Sunday, and you can read about it by CLICKING HERE.

The other recruit was Jaylen Miller, a defensive end from Gaffney, S.C. Miller selected Georgia Tech as his first official visit.

When asked to rank it on a scale of 1-10, Miller joked, “I’d give it a 9.5. It’s only not a 10 because I never had time to take a nap. They kept us so busy. We had so much to do.

In a more serious tone, Miller said, “The visit to Georgia Tech went pretty good. I enjoyed myself there.”

The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder got to meet for the first time with new Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Ted Roof. “I didn’t know much about Coach Roof before this weekend. He was really easy to talk with. He explained the defensive scheme, and he told me where I would fit in.” Miller is projected to play rush end.

And what about the meeting with Paul Johnson? “He told me everything Georgia Tech had to offer. He was just very blunt about things. But I like it that way, where people don’t sugarcoat things.”

Does Miller have a leader? “Georgia Tech is the only school I’ve been to on an official visit. I think it would be really unfair to the other schools to name a leader because I haven’t visited them yet.”

How long will Georgia Tech hold a spot for Miller? “Coach Johnson said the scholarship offer was on a first-come, first-served basis. I like Georgia Tech but I don’t want to commit before I have at least one other school to compare it to.” Georgia Tech has 16 commitments for 2013, and will likely sign between 17-19.

Miller is scheduled to visit Wake Forest this weekend, although he is trying to switch it out with Tennessee. He also will tour Maryland.

What about the in-state schools, Clemson and South Carolina? “I haven’t heard much from them,” Miller said. “Word got around to me that they felt I’m too short for defensive end. They didn’t tell me that directly, that’s just what I heard from some people. Me personally, I feel like some of the best defensive ends in the NFL are around 6-2, like Dwight Freeney. I don’t think height equals production. I’m not upset with Clemson and South Carolina. That’s their decision. The only thing I can do is prove that height doesn’t equal production.”

SIGNING DAY IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

Yellow Jackets even found trouble during pregame

Here is a clue that your trip to sunny south Florida may not be a carefree vacation: You’re a football team, and you lose one of your starters during warm-ups.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
