Here are five of Georgia's top high school football players who are flying under the radar with D1 scouts, courtesy of 247sports.com's Rusty Mansell:
Glenn Welch, OL, Wayne County: "I really like his tape and I think he is a division one prospect. He is 6-3-280 pounds with a 3.6 core GPA. He was first team all-state and three time all region player. His coach Jody Grooms has coached Tre Jackson (FSU) and Trinton Sturdivant (UGA), so I would say he knows how to evaluate OL. You put Welch in Cobb or Gwinnett County he would have double digit offers right now."
Paul Davis, LB, Cairo: "Davis is 5-foot-10, 210 pounds and the complete definition of a football player. I had him at Rising Seniors last year and MVP Camp, he held his own against the best. Just picked up a recent offer from Temple, but I think there is a ton of schools in the South missing on him. He is a watch the tape no brainer offer for some schools not too far from him. He runs a 4.5 flat and also had over 100 tackles and ran for over a 1,000 yard this year."
Darrell Bridges, RB, Ridgeland: "This one really blows my mind more teams are not on him. I have had multiple coaches call me that have played Ridgeland and asked why he is not getting heavily recruited. I have seen him play two times in person and he is physical RB. He is a 6-foot, 200 pound prospect that is getting some attention from schools such as Vanderbilt, UTC and others. Bridges ran for over 2,300 yards this year. Schools looking for somebody that get those tough yards and having enough speed to hit the crease, Bridges is a big time prospect."
Bernard Morrison, WR, South Gwinnett: "I saw Morrison at several camps this summer and he made play after play for the Comets. He is a 5-foot-11, 185 pound prospect that is getting looks and has some offers. Morrison could play at an SEC/ACC school with the right fit. He has great hands, runs good routes and almost all the CB’s I saw against him had trouble covering him. North Carolina State and TCU have been in touch recently."
Nathaniel Norwood, LB, Lovejoy: "If there is a player in the state of Georgia with a better motor than Norwood, I have not seen it. He dominated the state championship game against Norcross. Norcross had to run away from him and get the ball in space to Alvin Kamara to offset Norwood and his constant pressure. He is too undersized to play defensive line in college but he will make a great middle linebacker in the right defense. He had one offer from Jacksonville State at last count, but there is a ton of teams missing on him if they have not watched his tape."
Do you know of any Georgia high school seniors who are also being overlooked by D1 colleges? If so, please post their name, high school, position, size (height and weight), link to YouTube or Hudl video, and why you think they have the ability to play D1 football. You never know who is reading this website.
