UGA may sign a kid who never visited

UGA could pick up a commitment on Wednesday from a kid who has never taken a  visit to the school.

George Adeosun told the AJC that he will sign with either UGA or Virginia at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Adeosun is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Alpharetta High School.

“I’m not at liberty to say anything,” Adeosun said. “I just want to finalize things with different coaches. All will be explained at 3:45 p.m.”

What are UGA’s chances for a kid who has never visited? Better than you would think. Adeosun’s father by the same name is a UGA graduate. And the younger son has been on campus, just not as a celebrated football recruit on an official visit.

Adeosun said he didn’t talk to any UGA coaches on Tuesday but that he did get a letter-of-intent from the Bulldogs. He talked to Mark Richt on Sunday night during the Super Bowl.

“Coach Richt stated his case, and (coaches from the other school) stated their cases,” Adeosun said. “I thought this whole process looking at everything from a completely objective angle, as I’ve said many times before. I’m really taking anything into stride. And I know it’s the final moment.

“I’m leaning toward a certain direction. I’ll make it known (at 3:45 p.m.), and it will be a very joyous occasion.”

What does Adeosun like about each school? “They are both in my top two. They are both athletically and academically high up there. It’s up to me to make the decision between the two.”

Adeosun is a late-bloomer who only played 50 snaps as a high school junior and was committed to William & Mary only 10 days ago. After his senior film was sent out in early January, he got a half-dozen offers and took official visits to Oklahoma, Virginia and Arizona State.

UGA offered Adeosun  last Friday. The Bulldogs are reeling after news that their top OL target, 5-star Laremy Tunsil, will likely sign with Ole Miss on Wednesday. Tunsil had reportedly been a longtime UGA "silent" commit but was swayed to Ole Miss after visiting there last week.

UGA NOTES

  • If you haven't heard already, there were multiple reports that surfaced on Tuesday evening that UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will interview with the New Orleans Saints. Please read the story by the AJC's Chip Towers right HERE. Yes, this broke on Tuesday night -- the eve of signing day. Couldn't be worse timing, but it has been that type of week for the Bulldogs. Naturally, the reports alarmed UGA defensive end target Davin Bellamy, who will decide between the Bulldogs, Tennessee and Oregon at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chamblee High School. "This was our biggest fear," Bellamy's mother told the AJC on Tuesday night. "We're going to call Georgia and try to get more information." Before Tuesday night's news broke, Bellamy was considered a virtual lock to sign with UGA.
  • More tough news for UGA: Almost every national recruiting analyst is now projecting Montravius Adams to sign with Auburn. Adams was UGA's best chance of signing a 5-star on Wednesday. What's really wild is that Adams didn't even decide to visit Auburn last weekend until the day before he left. He considered skipping it to rest. If Adams does go to Auburn, all of the credit must be given to Rodney Garner, the former UGA recruiting coordinator hired away by the Tigers. Garner, who has a close friendship with Adams, also convinced Carl Lawson to stick with his Auburn commitment.
  • Keep an eye on DeVondre Seymour, the adopted son of former UGA star Richard Seymour. According to UGASports.com's Jake Rowe, the younger Seymour has letters-of-intent from both UGA and Auburn.  The 6-foot-6 offensive tackle from North Gwinnett High School may have to go to prep school first.
