John Atkins, DT, 6-4, 300, Hargrave Military (Va.) Comment: Originally signed with Georgia last year out of Thomson High School but failed to meet NCAA requirements. … Spent one semester in prep school. Expected to have to stay for the full year, but coach discovered grade had been reported incorrectly to the NCAA Clearinghouse, allowing Atkins to enroll at Georgia in January. … Nickname is “John John.” … Played goalie for high school soccer team. Quotable: “He’s a big, athletic guy. I’ll probably never forget watching the first tape that I got of him. He was 270 pounds, playing tight end and catching balls. You can never have enough athletic big men. Look at the SEC; the difference between that league and the other ones is the defensive line and how they can move.
