2013 AJC Super 11: Kendarius Webster, Stockbridge
AJC Super 11 DB Kendarius Webster of Stockbridge High School

By Michael Carvell

UGA is back in the sweepstakes for Kendarius Webster, the AJC Super 11 selection from Stockbridge High School.

At Thursday’s Corky Kell luncheon, Webster said he was “down to two schools, Florida State and Ole Miss.”\

Last spring, Webster was rumored to be on the brink of committing to UGA, while there was chatter over the summer that he may pledge to Ole Miss.

Neither happened with Webster, who plans to wait and announce on Oct. 4.

On Thursday, after Webster named his co-leaders, he was asked what happened with UGA? “They were already kind of full at the position,” he said “But they started coming back since the de-commitment of Nick Glass. They started coming back harder after me.”

Last week, UGA had a scholarship spot open in the defensive secondary after Peachtree Ridge High School’s Nick Glass backed off his commitment to the Bulldogs to focus on academics and his senior season.

So, since Webster has two co-leaders and is just over a month from committing, is it too late for UGA? “No, it’s not too late. Signing day is not until February,” he said.

Does that mean Webster is really down to Ole Miss and FSU? “Those are the top two. But Georgia is up there, too. I’m going to take official visits to all of those schools. Those three for sure. Ole Miss, Florida State and Georgia.”

Webster said he still plans to commit on Oct. 4, even though he will take official visits after his public pledge. “I was going to commit over the summer. But I promised my mother that I was going to wait it out and see how I feel about those schools after I visit.”

The 5-foot-11, 177-pounder is rated as a 3-star and the state’s No. 28 overall prospect in the 247 composite rankings.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
