Nick Glass (second from left, wearing headphones, gray shirt) has de-committed from UGA after months of speculation. He is UGA's fourth de-commit for 2014.
Nick Glass, who has been committed to UGA for more than a year, backed off his pledge to the Bulldogs on late Thursday night.
Glass is a 3-star prospect from Peachtree Ridge High School who projects to play safety or linebacker in college.
“I de-committed so I could focus on my senior season and my academics, but there were a few other things, too,” Glass said. “I think I committed too early. I committed my sophomore year, which was way too early.
When Glass was asked if there were other contributing factors, he said, “There were a few things, but I can’t really talk about it right now because I’m trying to get my mind focused on our scrimmage. We play Lovejoy (this weekend). I’m trying to get my head together, so now is not the best time.”
Glass originally committed to UGA in April 2012. There have been rumors that Glass and UGA might be parting ways after he made unofficial visits last spring to Alabama and Tennessee, among other schools.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder attended last month’s Dawg Night prospect camp and hung around many other UGA commits. Glass transferred from St. Pius after his junior season and had to sit out Peachtree Ridge’s spring practice while his paperwork was being processed.
Glass is the fourth member of UGA’s 2014 class to de-commit from the Bulldogs, along with Sandy Creek WR Demarre Kitt (Clemson), RB Stanley Williams (Kentucky) and Krenwick Sanders (undecided).
UGA now has 16 commitments for 2014, and will likely sign between 21-23 in February.
In BYU, Georgia Tech will face a defense that is one of the toughest in the nation to score against and has a playmaking force in outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
Tailback J.J. Green said he can’t say for sure how many times he has heard “you’re one play away from playing” from Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and running backs coach Bryan McClendon.
Here is a clue that your trip to sunny south Florida may not be a carefree vacation: You’re a football team, and you lose one of your starters during warm-ups.
If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
