Why UGA? “My family, we’ve always been Georgia fans. We’ve always loved the team. I like the coaches, and program’s history of winning games and being good. I always wanted to go up there and be a part of that.”
Vitals: 6-foot-4, 280 pounds, and plans to major in Sports Management or Business.
Recruiting rankings: TBA
Things to know: As a junior at Heard County, Edwards registered 51 pancake blocks, and graded at 81-percent for his blocking for the season … His hobbies include duck hunting
They said it: Heard County coach Tim Barron: “His work ethic reminds me of Ben Jones, who played center for Georgia years ago. Jake has got some of the same nastiness about him, which I like. He’s going to be one of those types of kids that gets after it.” … Said 247sports.com’s Rusty Mansell: “When I saw Jake for the first time, he had a good tape. Initially, I wasn’t sure if he was going to get there. He was around 250 pounds, and I wasn’t sure if he was going to gain any weight. He looked good at the RisingSeniors.com all-star game (last December) but he still needed to gain weight. But from January to this June, he was as impressive as anyone in the 2014 class. He’s around 280 pounds and he benches 360+ pounds. He’s worked as hard as anybody in the state of Georgia this calendar year … At UGA, he might can play some right tackle but I think he’s going to be an offensive guard. He’s an inside guy.”
Favorite non-coach teacher? "It would have to be my dad (Heard County assistant principal Chris Edwards). He was always out there with me after school, getting me better with footwork and agility drills, and getting me ready for camps. He’s always there to get me better.”

In BYU, Georgia Tech will face a defense that is one of the toughest in the nation to score against and has a playmaking force in outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
Tailback J.J. Green said he can’t say for sure how many times he has heard “you’re one play away from playing” from Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and running backs coach Bryan McClendon.
Here is a clue that your trip to sunny south Florida may not be a carefree vacation: You’re a football team, and you lose one of your starters during warm-ups.
If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
