If you want to know which 2014 prospects that UGA wants badly, just peek at who Mark Richt is following on Twitter

You want to know who is really on UGA’s recruiting board?

All you have to do is look at the college football prospects that UGA coach Mark Richt is now following on Twitter. Click HERE to see.

Since Mark Richt’s Twitter account was created in 2009 until a few weeks ago, the Bulldogs coach was only following four people on Twitter – his two kids, his wife and UGA football’s official Twitter account. Now nearly 40 of Richt’s 51 follows are prospective-student athletes.

Why is Richt all of sudden following recruits? It’s because Twitter has become the Social Media medium of choice for most college prospects. While kids check their Facebook email daily, their most popular daily online destination appears to be Twitter.

And if you’re a coach, you have to be following a recruit on Twitter – and have the recruit to be following the coach – to communicate via Direct Messages. A Twitter Direct Message will often be sent to a recruit’s cell phone just like a text message, and coaches can send an unlimited amount of them.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson doesn’t appear to following many, if any recruits, out of his 62 follows. Most are current or former Georgia Tech athletes, sports organizations and various members of the sports media.

Yellow Jackets even found trouble during pregame

Here is a clue that your trip to sunny south Florida may not be a carefree vacation: You’re a football team, and you lose one of your starters during warm-ups.

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
