They said it: “He’s probably been one of our most explosive players since he was in the ninth grade. We knew the first day he walked on the football field with us, he was going to play Div. I football. Georgia is getting a player that can stretch the field horizontally and vertically. He’s an explosive player. He can run the underneath routes and also make the big catches deep. I think he brings a lot of the table. Most of all, Georgia is getting an in-state kid that is going to keep the in-state pipeline they got going.” – Wayne County football coach Jody Grooms.
Favorite non-coach teacher? "Mrs. Felicia Hayes was my math teacher my 9th and 10 grade years. She helped me with anything I needed, as far as school goes. And even though I don’t have any classes with her now, she still helps me whenever I need it.”
Nickname? “I was playing travel baseball when I was seven years old, and my coach had a hard time saying my first name. So he took K and W from my first name and called me ‘KW.’ That stuck until sixth grade and then our South Georgia slang got thrown into it and it became K-Dub.”
In BYU, Georgia Tech will face a defense that is one of the toughest in the nation to score against and has a playmaking force in outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
Tailback J.J. Green said he can’t say for sure how many times he has heard “you’re one play away from playing” from Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and running backs coach Bryan McClendon.
Here is a clue that your trip to sunny south Florida may not be a carefree vacation: You’re a football team, and you lose one of your starters during warm-ups.
If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
