Apple Inc.’s servers were slammed Wednesday as consumers with iPhones and iPads tried to download the latest update to its operating system, the iOS 7.

The update became available after 1 p.m. Eastern.

The upgrade is for consumers with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, the iPad 2, iPad third and fourth generation, the iPad mini and the iPod touch 5th generation.

Downloads can be accomplished either wirelessly or by plugging your device into your computer and launching iTunes. And don't forget to back up your device before downloading the new software.

You're competing with millions of others around the world - many with more than one Apple device - for the servers' attention. Complaints on social media included downloads being too slow, downloads failing and downloads not being available.

Here are just a few of the comments on Twitter:

#Sabrina Wu ‏@sabrinabellawu: The struggle is real

Poonie P. ‏@OfficialPoonieP: By the time my #ios7 finishes downloading, #ios8 will already be out.

#RollTide ‏@Matt_ : Got the iOS7 and I'm not impressed.

#Emily ‏@enh410: Slightly obsessed with the #ios7 update! My iPhone got a makeover

And then there is this one:

Zahra! ‏@zahrahashemi999: People with androids are tweeting about iOS7 just to get retweets!!

What has been your experience, and if you have iOS 7, what do you think about the latest Apple update?
