Game thread - Hawks face Nets with record-setter Williams

The Hawks face the Nets Saturday with Deron Williams coming off an NBA record performance Friday.

You’ll remember Williams as the guard who could have been a Hawk draft pick in 2005. Williams had nine first-half 3-pointers, an NBA record, on his way to 42 points in a win over the Wizards Friday.

Hawks coach Larry Drew said containing Williams will be the key.

“You have to defend the 3-point line against him,” Drew said. “I’m sure he’s feeling real good about himself. We can’t give him any comfort 3s. I was surprised how many good looks that he got after he knocked the first couple down. I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out if a guy gets into a rhythm, particularly the way he did early, you’ve got to push up on him and chase him off the 3.”

* The Hawks will start Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Josh Smith, Al Horford and Johan Petro against the Nets.

* The Hawks didn’t have a full complement of players against the Nets Saturday  without Zaza Pachulia (see notebook). However, they did have their two top players available – a first this season. The Hawks were missing Smith in a 109-95 victory in Atlanta Jan. 16. They were without Horford in a 94-89 loss in Brooklyn two days later.
