Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez consecutive games 200 mark By D. Orlando Ledbetter
FLOWERY BRANCH -- With a catch against the New York Jets, Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez can join wide receiver Jerry Rice as the only players in league history to caught a pass in 200 consecutive games.
Gonzalez stands at 199 catches.
Rice, who played most for the San Francisco 49ers, caught a pass in 274 consecutive games.
“It’s something that I never thought would happen,” Gonzalez said. “I never even set out for it to happen. I’ve been very fortunate to stick around and be healthy to be able to do 200 games like that.
“I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch. Hopefully, I’ll get that catch. Joining a guy like Jerry Rice, he’s a G.O.A.T., Greatest of All time, and that’s good company to be with.”
