Steven Jackson
Steven Jackson was coveted by the Falcons because in addition to his running ability, he has soft hands and is an adroit pass catcher out of the backfield.

SALARY CAP ANALYSIS

FLOWERY BRANCH – The cap number on Steven Jackson’s three-year, $12 million deal is in.

Jackson’s deal, of which $4 million was guaranteed, has a cap number of $2.916 for 2013. (We nearly hit the projection on the head in the previous salary cap analysis blog when we projected the number at $3 million.)

He received a $3.5 million signing bonus and has base salaries are $1.75 million ($500,000 guaranteed in 2013), $3 million (2014) and $3.75 million (2015).

The Falcons adjusted salary cap is now at $123,286,300.

With Jackson’s cap number (counting all 58 bplayers) the Falcons are $3.45 million under the cap. Going by the NFL rule of 51 (league count’s just the top 51 deals), they are $5.88 million under the cap.

Here are the top 10 Salary Cap numbers for 2013:

Matt Ryan, $12 million

Roddy White, $9.12 million

Justin Blalock, $7.66 million

Tyson Clabo, $6.05 million

Tony Gonzalez, $5.25 million

Jonathan Babineaux, $5.20 million

Ray Edwards, $4.6 million

Julio Jones, $4.4 million

William Moore, $3.9 million

Stephen Nicholas, $3.5 million

GRIMES FRONT: Former Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes visited the Dolphins and the Browns over the weekend.

A source told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he liked his visit to the shores of Lake Erie.

SVITEK SIGNS: Also, former Falcons tackle Will Svitek signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Patriots.
