Floataway Community First Friday: Join this artist's enclave on Zonolite Road for its First Friday series on Oct. 4, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Stroll through the community and enjoy exhibits from tenants such as Quickshot, Garnish & Gather, Habersham Gardens and more. There will be complimentary cocktails and beers from Georgia Crown as well as taqueria bites from Sol Catering. The evening includes live tunes from indie-pop group Paul Melancon and the New Insecurities. Park in front of the 1145 and 1155 buildings along Zonolite Road. Atlanta Hawks open practice: On Oct.  5 at 5:00p.m. the entire Atlanta Hawks roster and coaching staff will hold an open practice at Philips Arena. The event is free to the general public. Doors at the CNN entrance will open at 4 p.m. for the 5 p.m. tip-off. Two teams of current Hawks players will be scrimmaging during three, 12-minute quarters. There will also be a Q&A with Coach Budenholzer, play-by-play from the voice of the Hawks, Steve Holman, and appearances by Atlanta Hawks cheerleaders and Harry the Hawk. The open practice will be streamed live on Hawks.com. 

34th annual Great Miller Lite Chili and BBQ Cook-Off: Check out this event at a new venue this year, the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Ga. on Sat., Oct. 5.  For $10, you can enjoy samples of chili, Brunswick stew, cornbread and BBQ chicken and ribs from amateur cooks. There will also be live music, games and activities for all ages. Children under 12 get free admission and 100 percent of the proceeds go to Camp Twin Lakes, a camp for Georgia children with serious illnesses, disabilities and challenges.
