Something For Everyone The Next Few Months

Southern Fried Supernova
Southern Fried Supernova

By Rick Hancock

If you thought this weekend was just the start of fall; think again! The good folks at Hypepotamus say Friday kicked-off seven weeks of Mardi Gras like festivities here in Atlanta for innovators. It’s dubbed Southern Fried Supernova

During September, October and November Atlanta will host at least three dozen events and festivals that have strong technology themes.  Keeping track of all of those events – even on your shiny new iPhone 5s - could get a bit overwhelming. So Hypepotamus and a collaboration of other businesses including Turner Broadcasting and Coca-Cola launched the website SupernovaSouth.com.

Even though there’s a true diversity of organizations listed on the website, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include two upcoming journalism related digital events that weren’t included.

PBS’s Media Shift:

How can media startups break through, survive and thrive? That will be the focus of the upcoming Collab/Space Atlanta workshop on October 16, 201. It will be an all-day, hands-on workshop focused on media innovation and spotlighting 8 cutting-edge media startups — both in Atlanta and outside Atlanta.

Online News Association:

The Online News Association 2013 Conference is the premier gathering of highly engaged digital journalists shaping media now. Learn about new tools and technologies, network with peers from around the world and celebrate excellence at the Online Journalism Awards.

Is anyone thinking of trying to attend all of the events listed on the website? If so, drop me a line. Maybe we can award the winner a set of Mardi Gras beads!
