Another Sunday, another great story in the AJC related to tech and entrepreneurism. Last week the AJC's Michael Kanell wrote about Helping Tech Grow in Atlanta, and today business assignment editor Matt Kempner profiled entrepreneur Diana Harbour and her Athens-based online business that's on track to earn $ 8 million in sales this year.
"From her cubicle at a credit card company in Columbus, Ga., Diana Harbour saw a flat trajectory for her life ahead. It terrified her.
Eight hours a day, the English lit major wrote bland paragraphs of boilerplate to be printed on credit card statements. She also plotted her dream.
Eight years later Diana, now 32, and husband Josh run an Athens clothing store called The Red Dress Boutique and a much larger online retailer by the same name. The Harbours say they expect $8 million in sales this year, far above what they had just two years ago. They have about 40 employees and are preparing to expand internationally."
Continuing reading on MyAJC.com how Harbour explains how she did it.
Beginning today, "Matt’s column will alternate with 5 Questions for the Boss, the popular Q and A with the region’s top business leaders, written by business assignment editor Henry Unger. These columns, published exclusively for subscribers, are part of our commitment to bring you insightful coverage of metro Atlanta’s business scene."
Today's story, along with this blog, is another signal that the AJC is focused on covering the growing startup technology world in Atlanta and Georgia. If you'd like to see more stories like these, or if you want us to feature your company send us a story pitch. I'm especially looking to talk to business owners who can give readers insight into the inner workings of their businesses as a startup, what advice they have to help others and what Atlanta must do better to improve the business environment for startups. We're also interested in significant new hires, acquisitions, mergers and investment/venture news.
And as I wrote in an earlier blog, we're more than happy to stop by your startup for a visit.
Drop us a line and tell us your story.
