AJC Peachtree Road Race -- what motivates you to run?

Motivated by pain, or gain?

By Kristi E. Swartz

Something highly unusual happened Sunday morning.

I didn’t feel like running.

Now, remember, the weekend before, I was out there in the rain, splashing through puddles. Sunday’s weather was gorgeous, so I couldn’t blame my lack of enthusiasm on that.

It just seemed so much easier to run errands instead – until I looked at my calendar and realized that the chance for any meaningful running time after work was slim. It’s just one of those busy weeks where running has to take a backseat for a couple of days.

So I put away the groceries, laced up my shoes and headed out the door. One mile in, I felt much better and kept going.

A day or two of rest is fine, but with the AJC Peachtree Road Race coming up in July, it’s time to get moving.

For the first-time AJC Peachtree’ers – what are you doing to stay motivated over the next six weeks?

Veteran Peachtree participants – any tips for the newbies on how to get out there and train when they don’t want to?

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
