It’s official, Atlanta.

This is the warmest February on record since 1879, according to the National Weather Service.

Current temperatures are 68 degrees in Atlanta, 55 in Blairsville and 60 in Griffin.

The average high for this time of year is 59 degrees.

And while Channel 2 Action News reported Thursday’s expected high of 74 degrees will fall short of a record set in 1980, Friday could be a different story.

Atlanta could break the record of 77 degrees set in 1982, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

According to the latest forecast, the expected high is 78.

Even though temps are up, the pollen count is down — for now.

After hitting a record-breaking 1,289 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Monday, the pollen count dropped to 387 Tuesday, 140 Wednesday and 67 Thursday, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma.
