UGA offensive line holding its own

Georgia has used six different starting offensive line combinations this season. The most recent came Saturday when Josh Davis filled in for injured starter Justin Anderson (foot) at right tackle and played most of the game.

Based on the final stats — 351 yards offense and a 17-13 win — it seemed to go well.

“It’s all Coach [Stacy] Searels,” said Davis, a 6-foot-6, 293-pound sophomore from Jayess, Miss., who was making his second start. “He’s just a great coach. He gets all of us ready to play at all the different positions. Pretty much everybody on the offensive line can play more than one. The more guys you have to play more positions the better off you’re going to be as a team.”

It wasn’t easy. After being moved up and down the field for most of the first quarter, Auburn adjusted and started making it tough on the Bulldogs’ offense. Georgia had 158 yards in the opening quarter alone but less than 200 the rest of the game.

But as has been their tendency, the Bulldogs made the plays they needed to make. Georgia drove 60 yards in six plays for the go-ahead score with 8:24 remaining.

“They’re doing a great job,” quarterback Matthew Stafford said of the offensive line. “And Coach [Mike] Bobo’s coming up with great ways for me to get the ball out of my hands quickly or just give Knowshon [Moreno] a crease. We don’t have to line up and just manhandle all four of their defensive linemen. We just need a little crease, a little time, to let the guys do what they do.”
