COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina senior tailback Mike Davis could miss about a week after hurting his left shoulder.

Davis fell during a drill Thursday night.

Coach Steve Spurrier says Davis will be out a week or so. He came into the season as the starter. He was the Gamecocks' second-leading rusher with 518 yards last season.

Spurrier says sophomore Brian Maddox will move up to the first team in Davis' absence.

Backing up Maddox will be junior Taylor Rank and freshman Eric Baker.

The Gamecocks continue practice Friday and will hold a scrimmage Saturday. South Carolina starts the season Aug. 28 at home against North Carolina State.
