Odell Thurman was not at the Cincinnati Bengals voluntary camp on Tuesday.
Thurman was expected at the OTA (organized team activity) session but had returned to Georgia to attend his grandmother's funeral on Monday, according to the team's Website.
Thurman, the former University of Georgia linebacker, was reinstated by the NFL last month after missing two full seasons for violations of the league's substance abuse policy.
Thurman was expected to make his first public comments Tuesday since by reinstated. He has declined all interview requests.
Cincinnati's OTAs are scheduled to continue three times a week for the next four weeks.
