September to early November is considered the summer season, with some of the warmest days of the year. Also, days and evenings are mild and clear with little rainfall and fog in the forecast.
An airfare sale rate of just $89 ($99.60 each way, including all taxes and fees) dovetails nicely with this splendid season.
Both AirTran and Delta offer this rate on nonstop service through Nov. 18. American and Frontier also match the $89 sale rate on connecting flight service via Dallas-Fort Worth and Denver, respectively. Airfares are subject to change without notice.
The rate requires a 21-day advance notice of travel and is valid only on Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday. Regular rates apply on other days.
So if you can steal away for a few weekdays, you'll have yourself a nice getaway to America's favorite city.
If you go, consider buying a CityPass to save 50 percent on the city's top attractions. Each CityPass is valid for nine days, and the adult price of $59 ($39 for children ages 5-12) includes skip-the-line admission to:
- California Academy of Sciences
- A one-hour bay cruise with the Blue & Gold Fleet
- Aquarium of the Bay
- San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
- The Exploratorium - or - the Fine Arts of Museums of de Young and Legion of Honor
- And, a 7-day Passport for trolley buses, historic streetcars and the famous Cable Cars
