For ajc.com

Remember making your first trip to Washington D.C.? Make a return visit with the kids and fill them with history and city adventures. The capital can also be an ideal spot for a romantic getaway.

One hotel package that will please any visitor on a budget comes from The Beacon Hotel, located near the White House, Dupont Circle, Embassy Row and downtown attractions.

The "Urban Explorer" package includes just what you need — deluxe accommodations, breakfast, dining discounts, cocktails and passes to ride the Metro.

Nightly rates from $159 include a full American breakfast, two all-day Metro passes for two people, a choice of a welcome cocktail or dessert for two, discounts for in-house dining on weekends and a 50 percent discount for parking.

If you're bringing the kids, they can enjoy the breakfast and get a Metro pass for $20 each, per night, for those under 13; or $25 for over age 13.

For an additional $20 per night, upgrade to a Junior Suite.

The deal is valid on stays through Jan. 15, 2010.

Guestrooms at The Beacon are contemporary with a touch of tradition, floor-to-ceiling windows and seating alcoves. Its Beacon Bar & Grill was rated No. 1 in the Best Brunch category in a Best of Washington poll. And you can't beat the location, just three blocks from two Metro stops.

Before you go, check out the city's official tourist web site for savings on attractions and special sightseeing tips and how best to get around town. Don't miss the page 100 Free (or Nearly Free) Things to Do in DC .
