A lot of rental vacation homes feature two bathrooms and a fully-equipped kitchen. Not too many come with a 10-acre private island.

Eagle Lodge sits alone on, appropriately enough, Eagle Island, a 10-minute boat ride upriver from Darien, a small fishing town about 60 miles south of Savannah. The Darien River, Mayhall Creek and thousands of acres of marsh cut the house off from the rest of the world.

The lodge on Eagle Island sleeps 10. Extras include a ping-pong table, a hot tub and satellite TV.

"You've got complete seclusion if you want it," said Chris Lucas of Cumming, who spent two weeks there last summer.

But the house offers more than peace and quiet. There are two bathrooms and sleeping arrangements for 10. There is 1,500 square feet of screened porch and a hot tub. There is satellite TV and wireless Internet access. The house has a fireplace and a ping-pong table.

The house also comes with all-you-can-eat crabs.

Lucas said crab pots dropped off the island's dock were filled every morning.

"We had crab salad, steamed crabs, crab sandwiches," he said.

One morning, Lucas said, he followed a returning shrimp boat back to the docks where he bought 25 pounds of shrimp at $5 a pound.

The wild beaches of Sapelo Island are a 15-minute boat ride away, as are the docks of Darien if you want to dine at a restaurant.

Lucas brought a pontoon boat the family keeps on Lake Lanier. The owner of the island, Andy Hill, will ferry you from Darien to the island and back. He will also arrange charter fishing trips and day trips to Sapelo.

If you want to explore on your own, you can rent a boat for $150 a day.

Six-nights on Eagle Island is $2,340. A weekend stay, with two-night minimum, is $500-$600 a night, depending on the number of guests. Shorter stays during the week are $400-$500 a night.
